Taxes & first blog post...interesting combo!
Nothing like doing your business taxes to make you want to write a blog post. Organizing documents for tax season can make you question your passion and your business goals, especially when you realize that you have to take a loss for the second year in a row. So, I figured I'd take a little break and share some honest truths with everyone...
Starting GREENsimplified was a dream of mine that my supportive husband and wonderful friends encouraged me to do. I give myself huge credit for putting myself out there and taking a risk, but every day I wonder if this is what I am meant to be doing. I'm overly passionate about the environment and the health of those around me (sometimes too much). I love to learn and share information with others (I apologize for anyone who has fallen victim to one of my rants). I also want my children to be proud of me and to see me go after my dreams. Maybe even one day they'll see me as a successful small business owner and not just a mum that drives them everywhere, cleans up after them and cooks dinner every night (well, almost every night).
The last couple of years have been truly eye-opening. I definitely wasn't prepared for the amount of work that would go into creating something from scratch. Especially, when it is an ever evolving entity and idea with no real direction. There's alot more to running a business then having a nice website, selling a few products and hosting educational events. What I've learned is that the back office, the part that no one ever sees, takes up most of my available time...quarterly sales tax reports, maintaining the "nice" website (which isn't always up-to-date) and writing a monthly article, just to name a few on-going tasks, keep this stay-at-home mum pretty busy. Did I mention that those have to be squeezed in between taking care of my family, managing our household, driving kids to activities, volunteering and being present at their school and sometimes, actually, taking care of myself?! Through all the busy-ness and self-doubt, I have told myself that as long as I am still moving forward it is better then giving up and hopefully, with each small task and baby step I will come closer to figuring out what my true direction is for this business.
So, I promised myself that I would add a blog into my business mix...and here it is, my very first blog post (written when I should actually be doing my taxes)! Full of passion, honesty and fear of the unknown. Not only do I love love love to share information, but I figured that this would be a great way to document my journey. A great way for everyone to see how real life is when you are trying to persue a dream...and an even better way for me to remind myself of why I've chosen this path!
Thank you to all that have supported and continue to support me in this journey. I can't wait to see where it takes me and to one day look back and smile when I see how far I've come!
